And disrespecting the tricolour too while they're at it.

FYI lads, for the sake of responding, the National Flag should not be used as a table cloth. I am quite sure that the touching of the Irish flag on the ground was entirely accidental. The use of it as a table cloth however seemed entrely premeditated as it remained there for the day, while the flag at the FG stall was soon in flight...

I could go on, but I prefer not to because I think of myself as an adult. Shall we stop the trivialities folks...

sf use the tricolour at every stall and event. we do not just bring it out when it suits us. it never touches the ground and it is always folded properly. we are not ashamed of the flag of the revolutionaries and the easiest way to exibit it is to spread it carefully on a table. it is not like we are eating meals of it or anything. congradulations on getting the stall out, even if it is late in the year but you still are only the second best political and debating society for 2007/2008.

:D
And Sinn Féin are the second worst political party according to the Irish people's choice of TDs for the current Dáil.

if we are doing to get into debate over this: sinn fein are the third largest party in IRELAND. if you are going to say ireland you must mean ireland not just the 26 county state. i accept your point about the tds but unlike other parties our capacity to gain more seats is large. the number of people voting for sinn fein is steadily growing

Distribution of seats:
Party Seats
Fianna Fáil 77
Fine Gael 51
Labour Party 20
Green Party 6
Sinn Féin 4
Progressive Democrats 2
Independent 5
Ceann Comhairle 1

May have a large membership but not representative enough of the Irish people as a whole. I mean Ireland the country, which has 26 counties, not Ireland the landmass. I don't particularly want to debate SF's capacity to grow, was just pointing out the irony of you mocking FG over only being second best on the UCC campus 07/08.

there is no irony in my statement. we are the hardest working party on campus and this reflects the work eithic in the wider party. it is not long ago that we were banned off campus and we started from scratch and built ourselves up to being one of the best societies on campus. i have nothing to be ashamed of. in the wider context sinn fein were for years censored by the media under draconian laws but we survived the hard days and are now a vibrant party. i doubt any other political party in ireland could have endured what we did. we are still a fledgling party and are still experiences birth pangs as we flex our muscles.

There there, keep fighting the power. They'll all realise you're right some day. Everyone'll stop oppressing the completely innocent Sinn Féin party.

I represented my secondary school at a load of civic functions - including rememberance days. I've no problem with that. People fought and died - including Irish people against Nazis and fascism.

From my childhood, poppies became an intensely nationalist symbol - while that might be dying away somewhat it still exists. Poppies have their place however, poppies also include giving money to soliders injured in the North. I'm not mad on this to say the least.

White poppies, I'm not sure its exactly the same crowd as my younger days, were a way I found to respect the dead and show an active dislike of war and terror. With most of the retired soldiers of the Wars gone I really think the likes of the white poppies should be adequate.

Needless to say, my school - which experienced a huge percentage of volunteers at the early stages of war - wasnt delights... but they got it.

i would love to see those who died fighting in the first world war remembered. i have relatives who died fighting for the munster fusiliers in flanders. what i take issue with is why we remember those who died fighting for the british alone. why do we not remember the irish who fought for napoleon on the plains of europe? why do we not rember the brave irishmen of the st.patricks battalion who fought for the mexican army during the war of 1846-1848, who after suffering discrimination and abuse from white protestant americans 'went over the hill' and joined the mexican army? why do we not remember the soldiers of the international brigades who fought fascism in europe? did anyone remember mariead farrell who was shot down by the sas in gibralter? if we remember the soldiers of one army then we must remember them all. the poppy does not represent does who died coughing up their own lungs in the trenches after a gas attack. it remembers the glorious victory of general haige who sent thousands of young men to their death. the easter lily is a symbol of rebirth after a time of toil and blood. when darkness was a virtue and the road was full of mud. let us remember the brave irish dead. let us cast of the shakles of imperialism and embrace an new era. let us wear an easter lily.
